Thrifty Fashion Tips

Not going to lie I’m not the most fashionable person in the world although I try. With one income it can be hard to stay on top of trends! Well I want to show you that you don’t have to spend a lot to look good! The picture above is a cute outfit I recently wore to church.

6 Thrifty Fashion Tips: Look Good Without Breaking the Bank

 

1. Shop at thrift stores, antique stores, yard sales, and estate sales! This is kind of an obvious one! Sometimes you can even get brand new things like those shoes I’m wearing from Goodwill. They set me back $7 whoa! Plus your helping the environment since your giving something a second life.

2. Keep things you love for a long time! I actually think the tank top I’m wearing is from my freshman year in college, about 6 years ago (gasp I feel old)! It has this adorable 20’s style beading on it and I adore it, so I have kept it around forever!

3. Shop at outlet stores. My husband is the king of this! My favorite place is Banana Republic Outlet! I seriously get the best deals when I go usually around Thanksgiving or Christmas. I got a $60 sweater for $15! Can’t beat that!

4. Learn to sew. The hubs and I are shorties and we can always find great deals on pants that are way to long for us. So I hem them myself. My friend Jordan is awesome at this! She gets tons of clothes for free or buys thrift store mens shirts and then makes them her size! Smart lady.

5. Learn to wait on good deals! The majority of the time I will not buy something unless it is on sale. Its super hard for me to buy something knowing it will be cheaper in a week. You just have to learn to be patient!

6. Have a clothes swap! My friends are really cool and trendy and I love switching clothes with them! Its a win win. New clothes that are free yippee!

Wait to you see next weeks outfit! It barely cost me anything… Literally!

  2. I buy at thrift stores and garage sales a lot. The only clothing items I will pay full price for are undergarments & shoes. When something gets holes I save it and use the material to sew something for the littles who will be 2 & 4 in a few weeks. In high school I used to make all my pants because buying pants with a small enough waste & long enough length for me was expensive. I have been designing some clothes and need to get to working on them soon so that the kids all have summer clothes in their current sizes and hit up garage sales for the rest.

    1. Thats awesome Amy! I wish I was as good like that! My hubs has to twist my arm and beg for me to finally get around to sewing his pants ha. It sounds like you and my friend Jordan would get along great! Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

    1. I haven’t really had any clothing swap parties but more like when I talk to friends saying they need stuff or want to get rid of stuff we help each other out! I supported my one friend through her entire 7 month internship with all my dress clothes I didn’t need at that time. She then gave them back and it was a win win!

  7. A bunch of girls from church had gotten together to do a clothing exchange and it was SO much fun. Not only do you get to “shop,” but it’s a great social gathering too! We each brought a dish to share, so it sort of turned into a clothing exchange party.

    I also love shopping at TJ Maxx/Marshalls (and even HomeGoods!) – love those stores!

    1. That does sounds like a super fun idea! I love those stores too but try to stay away so I don’t spend to much there! I could spend all my money there if I let myself ha!

  8. Though in the instant it’s a little pricey, paying more for quality classic closet staples that will last you 10 years+ is well worth it! Love your tips. I’m a huge fan of thrifting!

  11. Thanks for the tips! Thrifting isn’t something I’ve gotten into, but I think I need to. Everyone always has such cute finds. I tell myself I don’t have time with two little ones, but I’ve got to start making times. I’m sure I’m missing some amazing things.
