DIY Natural Tinted Lip Balm {With Easy Non-DIY Option}

I’ve been wanting to share a DIY, natural tinted lip balm for a long time, but had no success. I tried other things in the past that did not work. Other people seemed to have success with them, but me? Nope. Total failures. Then, randomly, I grabbed some already-made lip balms and tried using this one simple ingredient. It worked! Well, kind of. It didn’t work at first, then it worked after I figured out a crucial step. The best part is you can make your own lip balm yourself, or just use already-made lip balm. It’s like the first step in learning how to DIY something. You’re testing the water, dipping your toes in without taking a full-on plunge.

You know who you are… those who think they aren’t crafty! People always give me all kinds of excuses about how they are not crafty and they couldn’t make such-and-such. But here’s the thing… you don’t know unless you give it a try. I really don’t consider myself a crafty person. I’m just willing to try and even fail at times. Shouldn’t we all be like that? Willing to take risks and fail? Learn a lesson or two or three or four?

DIY Natural Tinted Lip Balm

Materials:

Directions:

Homemade lip balm version: Make homemade lip balm according to directions, but don’t place it in lip balm tubes. Once completely melted, take off the heat and allow to cool down a bit. Add in natural food coloring and mix (I used straight red, but you can add a little yellow to make a more peach color, or mix whatever colors you would like). The color will start to combine as it cools. This is the crucial part. It only combines once it’s cooling down, and not while it’s hot. Place in a container, tin, etc. Dab your finger and rub onto your lips.

Less DIY version: Grab your favorite lip balm (hopefully, a natural one), and take it out of the tubes (I used four tubes of lip balm for the recipe). You can do this simply by twisting the bottom all the way up, and then using your fingers to pull it out. Place it in a mason jar or other glass container and melt it in the microwave, or put the jar in a saucepan with an inch or so of water over medium heat until melted. Once completely melted, take off the heat and allow to cool down. Add in natural food coloring and mix (I used straight pink, but you can add a little yellow to make a more peach color or mix whatever colors you would like). The color will start to combine as it cools. This is the crucial part. It only combines once it’s cooling down, and not while it’s hot. Place in a container, tin, etc. Dab your finger and rub onto your lips.

Not such a hard DIY right?
