5 More Ways to Switch to Real Food

5 More Ways To Start Eating Real Food Today

Last week I shared 5 Simple Ways to Switch to Real Food Today and today I want to share with you 5 more ways. It wasn’t like I woke up one day and decided I was going to stop eating/eat on rare occasion, fake not healthy foods. It took me years to completely make the switch, so don’t feel like you have to do this overnight. You will probably end up really hungry or go on a crazy twinkie rampage or something to that nature. Eating real food doesn’t mean you have to be perfect all the time. We eat 90/10 or 85/15 real food to not so real food.

 6. Grab that journal. Remember that list of what you and your family ate last week? Now look over it (as painful as it may be) and see how you can make healthful changes. Which meals seem to be the hardest? Did you end up going through the drive through because you didn’t have time to make something or had to run to a sporting event? Do you need to get better at planning your weekly meals? From your journal decide the first few changes you want to make and pick a new goal each week to reach.

7. Pitch all diet foods! Guess what? They aren’t healthier and actually are probably really unhealthy. No more low fat- non fat stuff! Like we discussed last week, fat doesn’t make you fat and those who consume whole milk weigh less that those consuming the low fat or non fat.

8. Find new healthy snacks! Are you a big snacker? Many time those snacks are full of sugar, processed ingredients, and chemicals your body doesn’t need or understand. Fruits, veggies, and nuts are like the perfect snacks. Or you can spend some of that time on the weekends making healthy snacks like these amazing chocolate coconut cashew bites. Other great snack ideas: whole milk yogurt with fruit, natural trail mix, all natural granola bars, organic tortilla chips with salsa, homemade popcorn, etc.

9. Cut out those darn drinks! Most drinks to me are such a waste of money and nutrients! You already know soda is bad (both regular and diet) and juice, honestly, is not much better! Sure it’s made from fruit and has some vitamins and minerals, but it’s a ton of sugar! We stick to mostly water around here, milk (preferably raw but our friends cow is going to give birth in the next month so we have gone without… very sad), homemade kombucha, and a little coffee. Do your kids like juice? Dilute it with sparkling water or plain ol’ water! Plus, it will stretch your dollar.

10. Find amazing real food bloggers to find recipes.
