Thrifty Shopping

I have some really wonderful, creative, and really thrifty friends who have taught me a ton! A week or so ago I went antique shopping with my friend Crystal! Let me just tell you that she is the queen of thrift store/garage sale shopping. She took me to this brand new thrift store in Marion. They had a huge sale going on. It was $2 for all the clothes you could fit in grocery bag. I only got 2 things, because that’s all that I liked. On the other hand she got like 10 things all shoved in that bag.

This is what I got a nice dress shirt from express and a pair of jeans that are my new favorite because they fit so well. All for $2

Tuesday was my hubs and my date night. We went to dinner and then went to Good Will just to look around. For $8 we got all of this…

A new purse because Neil hates my other purse since everything is always falling out, a water bottle, makeup bag, and two stuffed animals. Why stuffed animals you might ask since we don’t have kids? Well have you ever looked at the price of dog toys? Sooooo expensive, especially when your dog destroys even the toughest toys in 5 seconds. I found a stuffed bear for 25 cents at a garage sale and thought Kaia would love to destroy this and that she did. Ever since then we only by really cheap thrift store/garage sale finds. And she loved her new toys!

You might think its a waste since she destroys it, but she has so much fun and stays out of trouble for 20 minutes so its worth it! She plays with the rags for at least a week after she takes the stuffing out. Warning! Make sure to watch your dogs when they play with toys. We are fortunate where Kaia doesn’t eat any of the stuffing or papers she shreds she spits them out. I don’t think that is really normal though so please supervise your doggies.

But there you have it this weeks thrift store finds. I would love to hear great deals you found at thrift stores. Just leave a comment!

  1. I do about 80-90% of my shopping at thrift stores! I’m expecting my first baby next month and haven’t bought him one new outfit because of thrifting! Yay!

  2. I do almost all my shopping and kids clothes purchases at thrift stores….sometimes I don’t find anything and other times I come home with bags full. Plus I always donate everything to them as well.

  4. I discovered your site and am really enjoying it. Among my various interests are dachshund rescue and something I learned was that there can be a problem with buying human stuffed toys and giving them to pets to rip up. Kid’s toys have to have a fire retardant stuffing that can be toxic when injested by animals. It is much safer (though more expensive) to get toys intended for pets, because they don’t have the fire retardant.

Thirty years ago, I had a dachshund who was passionate about teddy bears. When I got him, he was sitting in the cage at the humane society with a Winnie the Pooh bear. Back then, it was safe to go to garage sales and buy him teddys to destroy.

    Now, I’m back to browsing.

    1. Thats a really good point. Luckily with my husky she doesn’t ever eat any of the stuff but we just got a new puppy and she likes to eat things so there will be no more stuffed toys for them. Thanks for sharing!
