Last week I was so excited because I finally ordered some gelatin from grass fed cows! Weird thing to be excited about, but I have been reading about all the amazing benefits of gelatin and couldn’t wait to get my hands on some. We’re friends here right? The truth is, I read somewhere someone said it’s better than botox (that may be an exaggeration) and that was the final motivating factor to purchase some.

Vain of me I know. But this girl (me), has a super expressive face so wrinkles come a little faster! Plus, you have to add all that singing in the car… So I’ve been trying to find different ways to use gelatin!

Enter in these heathy fruit snacks… I’m a sweets girl, but also don’t want to be eating a bunch of sugar. These heathy fruit snacks curb the sweet tooth while being healthy and naturally sweetened.

Benefits of Gelatin

The French were the leaders in gelatin research, which continued up to the 1950s. Gelatin was found to be useful in the treatment of a long list of diseases including peptic ulcers, tuberculosis, diabetes, muscle diseases, infectious diseases, jaundice and cancer.” -WestonAPrice.org

  • Skin: Gelatin is a great source of collagen which can help increase skin elasticity, help reduce wrinkles, and help prevent future wrinkles from forming. Yes please!
  • Hair and Nails: Gelatin can strengthen hair and nails.
  • Gut health: Gelatin can help heal leaky gut syndrome, promote bowel movements, and gut health. It also can act as an anti-inflammatory.
  • Bones: has been shown to strengthen bones and reduce risk of osteoporosis.
  • Hormone Balance:  can have a anti-estrogenic effect in the body. Basically, if you have too much estrogen in your body (which many of us do) gelatin can off set this.

Tips For Making Healthy Fruit Snacks

  • Make sure you line glass dishes or cookie sheets with parchment paper- or they  may stick.
  • Try different fruit purees to mix it up.
  • Add fruit chunks – strawberries, mangoes, peaches, etc.

How To Make Healthy Fruit Snacks

  1. Reserve 1/2 cup juice in a bow, mix in gelatin (will become a bit fluffy), and set aside.
  2. Puree fruit (I used fresh peaches) with a splash of fruit juice until you make one cup.
  3. Mix in the rest of the juice and honey, and place in a saucepan.
  4. Heat juice and fruit mixture on low to medium heat, stirring frequently.
  5. After the fruit mixture has been cooking about 5 minutes and has reduced slightly, whisk it into the gelatin mixture until completely combined.
  6. Pour into parchment lined a glass dish or cookie sheet, or a silicon mold.
  7. Refrigerate at least 1-2 hours. Cut fruit snacks into squares or into long 2 inch strips to roll up.
  8. Store in the refrigerator.
