I found this recipe from One Good Thing and just had to share! It’s so incredibly easy its stupid! And it costs 75% less than regular liquid hand soap and takes less than 30 minutes to make! Totally worth it!
All you need is…
3 bars of soap, grated
6 cups of water
Put ingredients in a pot over medium heat. Cook until dissolved and then place in jars to cool. It takes about 24 hours to get the right consistency. That’s it!

I love how an inexpensive bar of soap can go a long way. I want to use more of the natural soaps. I use Dr. B’s liquid for other uses. Could I use Dr. B’s bar soap for this recipe? The bar is much cheaper then the liquid so I would like to use it whenever possible. Would Dr. B’s bar soap also work for body wash, liquid dish soap and laundry detergent? I can’t imagine that I could use the bar in place of the liquid for my shampoo recipe, could I? Sorry for all the questions. I’m fairly new to natural DIY. Thanks!
Can I use 3 of my cold process soaps? Love your blog
just made dispenser and had all things to make it so simple and i can no wait to use it also i have so many of the blueish green ball jars and did not know what to do with them now i do i did not put mine in a ball jar though i used my atlas one.
I made this, but it solidified back to a thickness that cant be drawn up a pump. Is there anything that i can do to fix this problem?
I love doing homemade soaps for just about everything, is is the only problem I’ve had.
Hmm you could add some extra water. I would think that would do it! maybe add a few tbs at a time until you get the consistency you like! Hope that helps
I made about 1 gallon of Dove hand soap/body wash by taking about 2 1/2 cups of Dove soap bar slivers and dissolving them in 6 cups of boiling water. I added 1 Tbsp. of glycerin and 4 vitamin E capsules. Pour into jars or quart or gallon milk jugs. The soap will be very concentrated. When I am going to fill up soap containers or body wash containers, I simply pour out some of the concentrated soap, heat over low heat, and then add water to the consistency I want. You cannot beat the price of this! If starting from new soap bars, I would use 2 soap bars. You don’t have to grate a lot of soap, especially soap like Dove. Simply leave it in the pot of boiling water, and it will dissolve in a few hours. Works for me!
Thats another great way to do it! Thanks for sharing!
Have just run out of handsoap and so can’t wait to make my own. Am house bound for a couple of days so no excuses! Might add some essential lavender oil?
Works out perfect! I think that would be a great idea and would smell really nice!
