Homemade Ice Cream!

I know its starting to get cold and the thought of eating something cold might be a chilling thought… But anyone that knows me, even for a minute, know my absolute favorite food is ice cream. No matter what the weather is like I love it. Making ice cream is so easy and so much betting then buying it from the store. All you need is an ice cream maker and a handful of ingredients. I found the recipe here.

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups half and half (or 2% or whole milk)*
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbs vanilla extract (next time I use this recipe I’m going to add another 1/2 Tbs)

Mix heavy cream, half & half, and vanilla together.  Slowly whisk in sugar until dissolved. Chill covered mixture for 3 hours or up to 3 days. Slowly add to cream mixture to ice cream maker following your makers directions. Eat at once or freeze according to manufacturers directions.

If you want to make different kinds of ice cream like cookies and cream, peanut buttercup, chocolate chip etc. Add those mix in during the last 5 minutes of the ice cream making process. After most of the cream mixture has doubled or tripled in size.

Enjoy! Have a great day!

*Side note: warning the less fattening the milk you use the bigger the ice crystals in your ice cream will be. The bigger the crystals the less smooth your ice cream. I used 2% and it still taste great just not creamy as it would be if I used half and half.
