This three ingredient green tea latte has less caffeine than coffee, is light, earthy, delicious, and will be the hero that lifts you up out of your afternoon slump. Turn your regular green tea into a heavenly drink.

It’s 4pm and your morning coffee is long gone. You need a little caffeintated something to get you through the rest of the day and evening. You don’t want to drink a honey butter latte because you know it will keep you up until midnight, and you don’t want a matcha drink because it has slightly too much caffeine, too.
That’s where this green tea latte recipe comes in. With just four simple ingredients— hot water, a bag of green tea, a hint of honey, and frothed milk to top it all off— you will have made the most delicious drink that will become the hero of your afternoon on busy days.
It tastes like a treat, and has just the right amount of caffeine to pull you through to bedtime. It’s seriously the perfect drink. If you top it with our sweet cream cold foam, it would be an even more decadent treat, but creamy milk, frothed to perfection, is enough all on its own.
Enjoy your new favorite drink alone, or with a scoop of ice cream, or alongside a slice of our sourdough banana bread.
The best part about this delicious green tea latte is the super frothy milk. It just adds luxury. Seriously, with a bit of honey and a huge pile of frothy milk, your green tea goes from being a Basic B to a Bad B in about 30 seconds of effort.
Don’t bother with trying to make latte art with this bubbly milk, just pile that sweet stuff as high as you can get it, and then dive in to the drink of your dreams.

Ingredients
Green tea: has many health benefits, including improving brain function and reducing the risk of heart disease. It helps to fight inflammation and support overall health.
Full fat milk: full fat milk froths better than other milks, and it also has a sweetness to it that is just sooooo good. If you need to be convinced to use full fat milk, just remind yourself that fat is good for your brain, so by using it in your lattes you are improving your brain function AND your mood at the same time.
Honey: Could also substitute with maple syrup or sugar.

Green Tea Latte Step-By-Step
Step 1: Heat your water in a kettle or on the stove. For best results you want the temperature to be about 175°F. Do not pour boiling water over your tea bag or it will burn your tea. Steep 1 cup (8 oz) of green tea according to the package directions in a wide mug. Typical steeping time for green tea is about 3 minutes.
Step 2: After three minutes is up, take out your tea bag and squeeze any excess tea out. Mix in 1 tsp (or less if you prefer less sweet) honey until fully dissolved and incorporated into the cup. Froth 1/2 cup of whole milk (not hot milk, but warm!) using a milk frother, or immersion blender.
Step 3: Pour the frothed milk over your tea and enjoy!
Tips
- If you prefer an iced green tea latte, before adding the milk, pour your tea over a tall glass full of ice. Follow up with the milk, but this time don’t heat it before frothing, and enjoy.
- You don’t need fancy barista skills or an espresso machine to froth milk, nor do you have to have a handheld milk frother. To make cold foam without a milk frother, just pour your desired amount of milk in a mason jar or other receptacle, and use an immersion blender to make it foamy. While on low speed, move the blender up and down for about 30 seconds, adding as much air to the milk as you like to get it nice and fluffy. If you don’t have an immersion blender, you can do this in a regular blender, too.
- Add a tiny splash of vanilla extract for a fun spin!
Best times of day to drink this fabulous latte:
- During a playdate. Your friends will thank you.
- Take it along in the car as you drive your kids to practice.
- Sip it on the patio in the afternoon while the kids play or are listening to an audio book. Enjoy the sounds of birds chirping, the breeze blowing, running water trickling somewhere. Close your eyes and enjoy the moment while you treat yourself. Sound picturesque? That might be what I’m doing as I write this…
Storage
- If for some reason you aren’t able to finish your latte, it will keep in the fridge until tomorrow. It won’t be amazing tomorrow, but it will be drinkable. Don’t let it sit out more than an hour as the milk will spoil.
FAQs
Yes, you can swap out the honey for a bit of sugar, maple syrup, vanilla syrup, or whatever your honey alternative might be! We find 1 tsp of honey gives it the best flavor, but that is just an opinion! Let us know in the comments what sweeteners you have tried.
Definitely. Try oat milk, soy milk, or any other choice of milk, just know you may not get as good of foam from these alternatives.
Mmmmm, probably not. Coffee shops usually serve a matcha green tea latte, which is made from green tea powder and has that vibrant green color. Our recipe is a lighter tasting and lighter-on-the-caffeine version. Check back soon for our matcha latte recipe.
Of course! About 1 tablespoon of whole green tea leaves is enough to make one cup of tea.
