I hope you love this homemade lavender sugar scrub as much as I do. Lavender is a favorite scent of mine. Adding our third baby to the mix has been one of the greatest joys, but it also comes with some overwhelming feelings.
Feeling like they grow up too fast, wanting to cherish every single second, while also a slight overwhelm with so many littles under toe.
Benefits Of A Sugar Scrub
Sugar is a great exfoliator in scrubs. It helps remove dead skin cells, clean clogged pores, and make your skin feel soft. It is very versatile and used in face scrubs, body scrubs, lips scrubs, and food scrubs.
Sugar helps draw moisture from the air to the skin and doesn’t isn’t as harsh and drying as say salt. It contains glycolic acid which encourages cell turnover and can help reveal smooth skin, and is great for mature skin (source).
Glycolic acid is used in many chemical peels to help reverse signs of aging.

DIY Body Scrub Tips:
- Use 100% lavender essential oil and skip any fragrances. These are highly toxic and contain endocrine disruptors.
- Avoid using mineral oils
- This recipe can also be used as a face scrub; just make sure you rub gently, since you don’t want to be too abrasive.
- I like to use a little less than a half cup of oil per cup of sugar, but if you want it really moisturizing than use a 1/2 cup oil.
- Double or triple this recipe to make for gifts. Make sure to use a large bowl if you make a large batch.

Dried lavender buds. Totally optional, but they are beautiful and smell amazing.
Best Sugar To Use For A Sugar Scrub
- Pure Cane sugar (like this one): Plain white sugar is great for all areas of the body, including the face. Great exfoliator. I love using organic cane sugar (Costco has the best price FIY)
- Brown sugar: Is better for more sensitive skin and sensitive areas like the face because it is finer than the other options. Find my brown sugar scrub recipe here.
- Raw Sugar (like this one): Good choice for a body scrub as it is much more coarse. Wouldn’t recommend using it on your face.

Lavender Essential Oil (optional)- With a pleasant, floral aroma, lavender oil has been used for centuries to promote relaxation, restfulness, and overall well being. Vitamin e oil (optional) – (I use this kind) Vitamin E is an essential nutrient for skin health. It helps to protect skin cells from damage caused by free radicals, which can lead to premature aging. Oil:
Pick an oil that works for your skin. Mix and match oil to make it custom to you. Example: Use about 1/4 cup of olive oil, with about 1/4 cup coconut oil.

How To Make This DIY Lavender Sugar Scrub:
In a small bowl, mix together oil, sugar and 5-10 drops of lavender essential oil. (You could also add your favorite essential oils if desired).
Add to a mason jar or small airtight container. Top with dried lavender flowers if desired.
How To Use A Sugar Scrub
This is easiest to do in the shower. Take out 1-2 tbs (or a small amount) of scrub, wet skin, and then rub sugar scrub in a circular motion all over your body focusing on dry spots and rough skin.
Rinse with warm water.
Pat dry and apply body butter (I like this one with shea butter), or your favorite lotion.
Storage:
Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place away from any moisture. DIY sugar scrubs will last for up to a year as long as they are stored properly. Don’t forget to label the top of the jar with what it is so everyone remembers.
For gifts: I like to place it in smaller jars.
Variations:
Lavender salt scrubs: Swap out the sugar for sea salt.
Lemon lavender sugar scrub recipe: Add fresh lemon zest or a few drops of lemon essential oil.
Mint + Lavender: Probably my favorite combination. Add 2-3 drops of peppermint or spearmint oil and 5-10 drops of lavender oil.
