This homemade eggnog latte recipe is the perfect drink for the holiday season. Creamy eggnog spiced with nutmeg is frothed and paired with espresso or strong coffee to make this delicious coffee drink with nostalgic holiday flavor.
I was working on taking new photos for a homemade eggnog recipe that was posted years ago. A few days earlier I was working on the gingerbread hot chocolate recipe and decided to add some coffee to it for an afternoon treat.
Holy bejeebers was it good. Basically a gingerbread mocha latte.
Anyway, while working on that recipe, I had the idea to take the eggnog mixture and add it to some strong coffee to make this delicious holiday drink, just like the Starbucks version or one you can find at another local coffee shop on the holiday menu.
It is super easy to make and is much cheaper to make at home. Plus, it is guaranteed to get you into the holiday spirit. My 8 year old was all about it.
She helped me set up the photos, Adding the greenery, secretly eating the sprinkles by the spoonful, blasting Christmas music. It was a fun time.
And while she doesn’t like coffee drinks by any means, my younger son was obsessed. He loved it. But then he loves when I make lattes or top a tiny bit of coffee with some homemade sweet creold foam.
Recipe Highlights:
Perfect way to amp up your morning coffee. Move over boring old coffee.
Festive drink. A holiday classic perfect for Christmas morning.
Simple ingredients: Technically, you need two ingredients: eggnog and coffee/espresso. Making your own homemade latte is super simple.
Eggnog Latte Ingredients:
Espresso or strong coffee: Could also substitute for instant espresso. I typically use strong coffee since I don’t have a espresso machine.
Eggnog: Make your own homemade eggnog or use store-bought eggnog from the grocery store. Either will work. Use vegan eggnog to make this recipe vegan. Avoid light eggnog.
Optional add-ins: Whipped cream, sprinkles, dusting of nutmeg, you could even add bourbon if desired.

Step 1: In a blender, add milk, half and half (or use a non-dairy milk in place of the milk and cream), eggs, honey or maple syrup, nutmeg, and salt. Process until smooth.
Step 2: Blend together completely.
Step 3: Pour the egg milk mixture into a small pot and heat until 160 degrees. Take it off the heat and mix in vanilla extract. Transfer to a large lidded jar (I like to use a 1/2 gallon mason jar) and cool in the fridge.
How To Make A Eggnog Latte
Step 1: Make two shots of espresso or 4 oz of strong brewed coffee. I like to use my fresh press to do this.
Step 2: Steam the eggnog using a steamer or heat in a small saucepan until just warm. Be careful not to overheat, as it can cause the eggs to curdle.
Step 3: Using a hand frother or a blender, blend until super bubbly and frothy.
Step 4: Pour the shot of espresso or coffee into a mug and top with the frothy topping. Pour slowly, to make sure the froth stays on top. Add any additional toppings if desired.
Tips:
- Be careful not to heat the eggnog too high. It can curdle the eggs.
- If you do not have an espresso machine, use strong brewed coffee or instant espresso powder.
- While it is delicious on its own, I like to top this recipe with homemade whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg.
- Make this vegan by using vegan eggnog. Or make it dairy free by using either dairy free milk when making your own eggnog, or purchasing a dairy free version. Trader Joe’s has a yummy oatnog.
- For some extra protein, I like to add a scoop or two of collagen peptides to my coffee.
- Customize this recipe. If you like a sweeter, more rich latte, add more eggnog. I don’t like super sweet coffee drinks, so I just add a 1/2 cup of the nog. If you like it sweeter, add 1 cup.
Iced Eggnog Latte:
Use cold brew coffee or chilled espresso and rather than heating up eggnog, just froth it cold until about doubled or tripled in size. I like to use my immersion blender for this. But a brother or a regular blender will also work. Same process as making cold foam.
